In early May, Maxis officially announced their plans to release "The Sims 2." The sequel promises to take the game to a new level with DNA, a new graphics engine, and expanded building options.

A fascinating addition to "The Sims 2" is the concept of DNA and generations. Sims will pass on their DNA and facial features to their children. The movie for "The Sims 2" suggests quirky habits will also be passed through the generations. Sims will age and eventually die. They will no longer have an infinite amount of time to accomplish their dreams; making the game even more realistic.

"The Sims 2" will offer us the first chance to follow a Sim from birth to death. As Sims grow older they will have "Life's Big Moments" and earn a score for how well they are progressing. Choices will be relevant later in life in "The Sims 2." If they don't exercise, they will develop a potbelly. The same goes for those that do exercise, they'll be slim and fit.

As it is now, we have almost no control over how a Sim looks in our game now. Sure there is a selection of heads to choose from, but we are stuck with the hair color, eye color, and facial features of that head. Luckily, we can download heads from talented fans, but it sure would be nice if the game itself gave us more options. "The Sims 2" will give us the options to customize our Sims faces down to the eye color.
